Cake pops strike again! Our good friends asked us to make cake pops for their baby shower. Momma and Daddy were leaving the baby’s gender a surprise, so the shower anthem became “Pink or Blue We Welcome You”. I really can’t tell you how much that phrase tickled me each time I said it. I might just be excited for our friends.
The best part about doing cake pops for this party was because the first time we made cake pops, we brought them to our friends’ BBQ party where they announced they were pregnant! Oh how time flys!
The blue cake pops were chocolate and the pink ones were vanilla. Both cake recipes were very dense and moist cakes, so we needed very little icing to form the pops. Each pop had a little baby embellishment, coordinating curling ribbon and a personalized sticker for the event. All guests were able to take two and I believe there were a few extra as well. They had a lot of natural and organic feeling items on their registry, so we used the plain brown craft paper on all of the Styrofoam stands.
You’ll notice there are also two diaper cakes in the background. I made the one on the left. Their nursery room theme was ducks and firetrucks. I made the diaper cake with the same ribbons we used for the cake pop stands so it all had a unified feeling.
I like the smoothed fondant look of receiving blankets wrapped on the outside of the diaper cake. It gave me more opportunities to tuck little gifts like baby lotion and shampoos. We stuffed the remaining unused diapers in the bottom box layer. The diaper cake was surprisingly quick and easy. Don’t worry, this isn’t the last you’ll see of diaper cakes and cake pops!
