The Noshing Dead Dinners

We love a good themed party and we love the Walking Dead. For the last year we have been taking turns hosting Walking Dead night with some friends. We have had quite the variety of foods each Sunday. In the spirit of anxiously awaiting the return of Walking Dead season 5 here is a look at one of our “Noshing Dead” dinners. This night in particular we went with a full on zombie theme.

I did a bit of web searching to start to put our menu together. I found a variety of different subthemes with Walking Dead dinners. Some focused on the storyline details. Most went for a general Halloween Zombie theme. The Noshing Dead Cookbook was probably the most entertaining site I came across. While we didn’t use any of those recipes this time, I certainly will in the coming season 5! A few of us are bread addicts, so you’ll usually find a loaf of bread. We added some prosciutto to the bread board with some amazing olive oil I got from Toronto. prosciutto on bread board The main reason for the prosciutto was actually for the eyeballs. Some eyeballs had to be olive-less/prosciutto-less or certain guests wouldn’t have any eyeballs at all. prosciutto wrapped mozzarella with olives as zombie eyeballs We used Nadia’s recipe as a guideline, but improvised it a bit to our liking.prosciutto wrapped mozzarella with olives as zombie eyeballs The Spicy Roasted Cauliflower “Brains” with Citrusy Beet Salad came out wonderful. It was fresh, delicious and fairly simple. My fav pun from their site… What do vegetarian zombies eat? GRAAAAIIIINS!!! The cheese bubbled up to a nice rotting skin. The nails were made with slices of white onion and we stuck a large onion in for the wrist bones. zombie turkey meatloaf arm We also made mashed potatoes and red lentils that are not pictured. For dessert we had some simple shortbread fingers with almond nails. zombie shortbread finger cookie with almond nails

As with most of our themed dinners we compiled a playlist with music from the Walking Dead. It really helped get us excited before watching the episode. Our guests still talk about this dinner party so expect to see more Noshing Dead!
